LOVE expressed in
WORD and DEED
Our church family has developed relationships with various charities and organizations over the years. These are the groups that we support with our time and resources.
BISSELL CENTER LUNCH
Serving others
As an annual event in early October, our members make and serve lunch at the Bissell Center. This involves meeting on a Saturday to prepare the lunches, and then on a Sunday, after participating in the worship service led by Bissell Center chaplains, followed by serving the community lunch.
BASICALLY BABIES
Behind the scenes work
Basically Babies is a registered charity that works to provide for the basic outfitting needs of newborn babies born to families in extreme need in the greater Edmonton area. We work behind the scenes annually in a warehouse to prepare the gift of a complete first year’s wardrobe for these infants in the form of a beautiful colour-coordinated basket filled with clothing, outerwear, blankets, toys, storybooks, sleepers, undershirts, footwear and other baby essentials.
LIVE DIFFERENT
Building Projects in Mexico, Dominican Republican, Haiti
Live Different seeks to impact the lives of ordinary families in Mexico, the Dominican, Haiti and Thailand through community building projects. And, the lives of the volunteers from Canada and the US are also changed by the relationships created during a 10-day build. Our church members and friends have participated on many builds, particularly in Mexico.
MAT BUILDING
Plastic bags transformed
We collect plastic shopping bags, and various members take the time and effort to weave those bags into thick, sturdy mats. These mats are then donated to the Bissell Center, which gives these out to the homeless. These mats provide a comfortable and dry sleeping surface.
ONE! INTERNATIONAL
Making a difference in India
One! International Poverty Relief (One! International) is a registered Canadian charity which runs schools for over 200 street children in and around Mumbai, India. A non-government, non-profit, non-sectarian organization working in India, its goal is to teach literacy, numeracy and life skills to economically disadvantaged children, as well as associated social services to the parents and families of those children. Our members are happy to support this effort financially.
WE CARE KITS
Canadian Lutheran World Relief
Following a natural disaster such as an earthquake or typhoon, CLWR helps meet people’s needs in the short-term ranging from food and water to shelter to hygiene kits. Our congregation helps out in a small part by gathering and processing items for We Care Kits.
